Programs

Academic Program
BGA’s rigorous course load is innovative and prepares all of our students for success in college and the workforce. Our school’s “green” theme is woven into all courses.  We offer the following academic programs:

Science: We provide a ‘green’ science education with help from our many partners. Our high school program includes Physics, Biology, Chemistry and AP Environmental Science, as well as internship and project-based opportunities.

Math: We offer a strong college-preparatory math program that allows all students to take either Pre-Calculus or AP Calculus by the time they graduate. Additionally, a “Foundations of Math” course is offered for 9th grade students who need extra support.

Humanities: By combining English and Social Studies, we explore exciting ideas, themes, and topics through the study of literature and history together. Students learn the essential skills of writing, argument, and research to prepare them for college and beyond. We also offer “Foundations of Literacy”, a support course in reading and writing to make sure all students are prepared for college-level work.

World Languages: We exceed the BPS standard by offering Spanish in grades 9-11 as required courses. In addition, we are exploring ways to partner with cultural and academic institutions to offer Mandarin Chinese.

Arts, Physical Education, and Special Programs:  We inspire and engage students through the Arts, sports, and special programs like Ventures (an entrepreneurship program) and Project Week (a week of special programs). We offer many other opportunities for students to enjoy and excel.

School Schedule
With a longer school day and a longer school year (a three week Summer Academy in August is required for most students), BGA can give students more attention and help.

Student Activities and Opportunities
Students at BGA have great academic and extracurricular opportunities such as

  • After School Tutoring, SAT Prep and College Application Support
  • Exciting Clubs, Activities and Student Government
  • Sports (students play on the South Boston Education Complex Teams whenever possible) and academic support for Student-Athletes
  • Internships throughout Boston with our many partners
