What is the BostonGreenGala?
On April 16, 2015, the third annual BostonGreenGala, a fundraiser to benefit Boston Green Academy (BGA), will bring together students, educators, green business leaders and local decision-makers. An inspiring address will highlight Boston’s youth, education and the environment – and the pivotal intersection of the three that takes place each day at BGA. The BostonGreenGala, hosted at the innovative District Hall, promises to be an evening that not only inspires our 200+ guests, but also empowers our City’s youth.
What is Boston Green Academy?
Founded in 20ll, Boston Green Academy’s mission is to prepare all students – especially those who struggle – for success in college and the 21st century green workforce. As a Horace Mann in-district charter school, BGA is part of the Boston Public Schools (BPS) district and has increased autonomy and accountability for accelerating student achievement during its five-year charter. Through relevant curriculum, hands-on learning experiences, interdisciplinary projects, and student internships, BGA aims to replace obstacles with opportunities. In just over three years, students have shown that our methods are working: our graduation rate has improved from 55% to nearly 90%; our drop-out rate has decreased from 12% to 1.4%; and this school year, we moved from South Boston to the Taft Building in Brighton, where we opened our 6th grade and will add 7th and 8th grades in 2015 and 2016. We invite you to celebrate our successes, and also learn about the ways we need support and partnership to expand and best serve our City’s future leaders!
Why should you support the BostonGreenGala in 2015?
When you support the BostonGreenGala, you will help raise essential funds for programs that support BGA students, 87% of whom are living at or below the federal poverty line. Money raised through ticket sales, sponsorship and silent auction will go directly to programs that provide the academic, social and emotional supports needed to positively impact the trajectory of our students’ lives. Past sponsors include: Nellie Mae Education Foundation, NSTAR, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Boston University School of Education, Mt. Washington Bank, and more!
